The goal of the Mayne Island Recycling Society is to provide a comprehensive recycling service to the Mayne Island community. This includes maximizing participation in recycling, educating the community in waste resource use and management, and to foster concepts and practices of conservation that are achievable through a non-profit organization.

Mayne Island Recycling Society Constitution
Adopted May 29th 2024
1. The name of the Society is: Mayne Island Recycling Society.
2. The purposes of the Society are:
a) To endeavour to recycle the maximum volume from the waste stream in our community through reuse, reduction and recovery of recyclable materials.
b) To facilitate public education and participation in waste resource use and management.
c) To maximize cooperation between people, businesses, and community structures who recycle, and to reduce the community’s long term externalized costs and debts, either economic or environmental, of our waste management practices.
d) To foster concepts and practices of conservation that are realistic and achievable through sponsorship of volunteer services, especially cross-generational.
e) To conduct research programs with local citizens and qualified persons on important issues in the fields of conservation and waste resource management and to monitor public and private programs and performance in these fields.
f) To raise money, acquire funds and other assistance; and to own, acquire, and take by purchase, donations, device, or otherwise land or personal property; and expend, sell, exchange, mortgage, lease, let, improve, or develop same for the purposes of the society.
g) To undertake everything necessary to promote and attain the foregoing purposes and periodically to reassess these purposes.
