Does the Recycling Society take non-container plastic?
Mayne Island Recycling Depot accepts non-container plastic. This includes garden furniture, pails, toys, kitchen items and household goods. These items must not contain metal or other non-plastic components. Vinyl is not accepted. PVC piping is not accepted. Soft non-container plastic is not accepted.
Do we take Christmas Lights?
Yes we do.
Do you accept fabric & clothing?
Because of the Covid-19 situation, we are not able to accept clothing or fabric at this time. We hope we will be able to take these items for recycling again in the future. As an alternative suggestion, the Mayne Island Thrift Store accepts clean, second hand clothing in good repair. Occasionally the Mayne Island School can use some fabrics for their projects.
Do you accept books?
Unfortunately, the organization that was recycling books has gone out of business. We can no longer accept books at the Recycling Depot.
Where do our recycled products go?
You can find out where specific products are recycled on our "where your recycling goes" page.
Does Mayne Island Recycling operate a backhaul service for delivery of gravel, soil. etc.?
Yes we do. Please see the Backhauls Section under Programs and Events for information on arranging this service.
Do we take car seats?
Yes; however, only the plastic form is recyclable. In order to recycle your car seat with us you need to break the seats down and only bring in the plastic form (no screws or anything else).
