Mayne Island Beach Cleanup 2025
Date: Sunday April 27th 2025
Time: Cleanup starts at 10:30 am
For over two decades the Recycling Society, in partnership with the Mayne Island Conservancy has led an annual one day clean-up of beaches on Mayne Island. Held in the springtime, this massive volunteer effort, with often over 100 people involved, combs all of our popular beaches, removing the flotsam and jetsam. This fun activity not only leaves our beaches pristine for our residents and visitors, but removes hazardous wastes from the marine environment.
Typically over a ton of debris is removed, brought to the depot, where it is sorted and weighed, and then trucked off island for disposal. Cleaner plastic, Styrofoam, tires, and other material is taken to Ocean Legacy for a new lease on life! Last year, we were able to divert 72% of collected material to their program.
This event has received partial funding from the Capital Regional District.
Again this year we will have a Post-Cleanup celebration, this time at the Agricultural Hall. Join us at 4:30pm on April 27th for refreshments, fun, and PRIZES for these categories:
